CSK, who were put into bat by Shubman Gill after the Gujarat skipper fumbled with his words at the toss, were led by openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra, both of whom scored 46 before a 23-ball 51 by Shivam Dube took Chennai towards a daunting total. Dube was dismissed on the second ball of the 19th over, which saw youngster Sameer Rizvi walk out to the field, being promoted over Ravindra Jadeja.

The 20-year-old Rizvi, who plays for Uttar Pradesh in domestic cricket, was embroiled in a bidding war during the auction ahead of the season and was eventually bought for INR 8.4 crore by the franchise, highlighting the talent he possesses.
Rizvi did not get an opportunity to bat in CSK’s first game of the season against RCB but validated his team’s trust in him during his short stay at the crease against Gujarat Titans.
The first ball he faced, against Rashid, was slog-swept over deep backward square leg as he got off the mark in the IPL in style. He ran a two on the next delivery before smashing another six on the last ball of the over. Rashid sent down a fuller ball outside the off stump and Rizvi danced down the track and cleared long-off as he raced away to 14 in four balls.
He was eventually dismissed two balls later but ensured CSK ended on a flourish, helping them post 206-6 on the board.
Rizvi has played 12 T20s thus far, scoring 295 runs with a high score of 75* and an average of 49.16. He has a strike rate of 134.70.
