Gill, who had led in just two T20s way back in 2019 before being appointed the skipper of Gujarat Titans, showed that he is still getting used to captaincy duties after a hilarious incident at the coin toss at Chepauk. CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad flipped the coin and Gill ended up winning the toss, which was confirmed by the match referee Narayan Kutty.

Gill confirmed his decision of batting first to the referee before realising his error. “Bowl, bowl first, sorry. Bowl first”, he immediately corrected himself, leading to laughter all around.

The presenter Sanjay Manjrekar confirmed the decision with Gill once again, which was indeed to bowl first.

The nerves were understandable. It was the first time that Gill won an IPL toss, also making it the first time he was deciding what the team did in the first innings. Gujarat had lost the toss in their first game of this IPL against Mumbai Indians on Sunday.

To be fair to Gill, it is a job that has even got the better of veterans. Last year, India skipper Rohit Sharma had a brain freeze after winning the toss in the second ODI against New Zealand, needing around 13 seconds to recollect what he wanted his team to do.
