Dhoni, who hasn’t been dismissed in his first seven innings of the ongoing edition, making 96 runs at a strike rate of 259.46 before Punjab’s game on Wednesday, was run out when he attempted two quick runs from the last ball of CSK’s innings.
Walking out to bat at No.7, Dhoni struggled for fluency against Rahul Chahar, who strangled him with his leg spin in the 19th over. The last over was an engaging battle as well: Dhoni hit Arshdeep Singh’s first legal delivery of the over for a four before he turned down Daryl Mitchell for a run two deliveries later as he looked to be on strike for the last three balls.

However, he did well to pick it up and throw it at the wicketkeeper’s end, where Dhoni, looking for a second, and was found short of his crease by the third umpire.
The former India skipper made 14 off 11, his slowest knock of more than 10 runs since May 2022.
