IPL 2024: News and updates
Chennai Super Kings beat Gujarat Titans in last year’s final. They began their latest season on a winning note, beating Royal Challengers Bengaluru by six wickets in the opening fixture in Chennai. Mustafizur Rahman starred for the hosts with figures of 4-29.
Mumbai Indians, who also made the playoffs last season alongside Lucknow Supergiants will hope to win their sixth title this year.
Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings, on the other hand, will expect a better performance. Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad also endured underwhelming campaigns in 2023 and would want to qualify for the playoffs, at the very least.
Hardik Pandya taking over MI captaincy from Rohit Sharma has been the most-talked-about change in leadership for the IPL 2024. Apart from him, SRH also appointed Pat Cummins as their new leader, replacing Aiden Markram, who led them in 2023. A day before the start of the tournament, Ruturaj Gaikwad replaced MS Dhoni as Chennai Super Kings skipper, bringing an end to the wicketkeeper-batter’s 16-year stint.
