IPL 2024 auction: Rules and format

A total of 77 slots, including 30 overseas positions, are going to be filled in the 2024 auction.

The shortlisted cricketers will be grouped into three categories – Indian capped players, Indian uncapped players and overseas players. They will be segregated again based on their role – batters, bowlers, all-rounders and wicket-keepers.

Most teams have retained their core since it’s a mini-auction. The purse limit for franchises this year has been increased to INR 100 crore compared to the previous year’s INR 95 crore.

Teams can bid for a player by raising a paddle after the auctioneer introduces a name. Each raise shoots the price of the player by a certain amount. For instance, each raise until the bid touches INR 1 crore pushes up the salary by 20 lakh. Above a crore, each raise increases by INR 25 lakhs, and after INR 2 crore, the incremental amount becomes INR 50 lakh.

Each player has set themselves at a base price which they cannot be sold for less than. Each team will then bid for them until all the squads are filled. The highest price bracket is INR 2 crore and the lowest is INR 20 lakh.
