Most expensive Indian domestic players in IPL 2024
Harshal Patel: INR 11.75 crore (Punjab Kings)
The medium pacer was Punjab Kings’ most expensive purchase in the IPL 2024 auction, having been released by RCB ahead of the next season. Harshal Patel was involved in a fierce bidding war with Gujarat Titans but was eventually taken by Punjab and will join Arshdeep Singh in the franchise. Harshal has taken 209 wickets in 178 games but is prone to leaking runs in the death. However, the lack of experienced Indian pacers and the demand for them led to a surge in his pricing.
Sameer Rizvi: INR 8.40 crore (Chennai Super Kings)
Rizvi was arguably the biggest surprise purchase, going for INR 8.4 crore, up from his base price of INR 20 lakh. CSK were involved in a bidding war with Gujarat and Delhi but he was eventually bought by MS Dhoni’s side. The 20-year-old uncapped player from Uttar Pradesh has played only 11 T20s but averages 49.16. In the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Rizvi struck 18 sixes in seven innings, hitting one maximum every 11 balls. Rizvi also scored the third-highest runs in this year’s UP T20 League, striking at 188.8 and making 455 runs.

Shahrukh Khan: INR 7.4 crore (Gujarat Titans)
The middle-order batter has been in wonderful form in T20s this year, striking at 158.69 in 18 innings. Usually a lower-order batter, Shahrukh Khan has been the designated finisher for his state team Tamil Nadu over the years, emerging as a match-winner. However, his IPL records have not been spectacular, averaging only 20.28 in 31 innings. The lack of available domestic finishers, however, saw teams bid heavily for him. This will be the first time he represents another team apart from Punjab in the IPL.
Kumar Kushagra: INR 7.2 crore (Delhi Capitals)
Delhi Capitals added a third keeper to their squad with Rishabh Pant’s return still uncertain for 2024. A member of the under-19 squad in 2020, Kushagra has not set the T20 stage on fire but comes with plenty of potential. He was the sixth-highest run-scorer in the Deodhar Trophy this year, with 227 runs in five innings, including making a fifty in the final. The Jharkhand player became the youngest to score 250 or more runs in a first-class innings last year in the Ranji Trophy pre-quarterfinal against Nagaland.

Shivam Mavi: INR 6.4 crore (Lucknow Super Giants)
The Uttar Pradesh quick, a member of the 2018 under-19 World Cup-winning side, has fetched over INR 6 crore in the last three seasons. He was traded from KKR to Gujarat last year and played only six games, picking five wickets. He was released by the side and has been picked by LSG to replace Avesh Khan, who was traded to Rajasthan earlier.
