IPL 2024 code of conduct breach: Full list of fines and suspensions so far

Clause 12.7 of the IPL Playing Conditions deal with over rates. As per the clause, a team has to complete 14.11 overs an hour – “the 20th over should finish within 90 minutes (being 85 minutes of playing time plus 5 minutes of time-out) of the start of the innings.”

If a team is guilty of violating these stipulations, they lose the extra fielder outside the 30-yard circle. For a first offence, the captain is fined INR 12 lakh. For the second, the fine is doubled, and the other team members are penalised INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fee, whichever is less.

In case of a third offence by a side in the same season, the captain is fined INR 30 lakh and handed a one-match ban. Besides the captain, the rest of the players are fined INR 12 lakh or 50 per cent of their match fees (whichever is less). These penalties will remain the same for each subsequent offence of slow over rates.

If a captain tries to escape a ban by handing over the leadership duties, the sanctions will still be applicable unless the BCCI is notified in writing about a formal change in captaincy.

IPL 2024, over-rate penalty: Full list

Match 7 – Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans): Gujarat maintained a slow over rate during their away match against the Chennai Super Kings. Since this was their first offence of IPL 2024, their captain Gill was fined INR 12 lakh.

Match 13 – Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals): Delhi fell behind on the over rate during their match against Chennai at their adopted home venue in Visakhapatnam. This was their first offence of the season, and Pant, their captain, was fined INR 12 lakh.

Match 16 – Rishabh Pant and Delhi Capitals team: Delhi maintained a slow over rate against the Kolkata Knight Riders at Visakhapatnam. Since this was their second offence of the season, their captain Pant was fined INR 24 lakh. The other members of the XI, including the Impact Player, was fined whichever of INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fee was lower.

Match 24 – Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals): Samson was fined INR 12 lakh after the Royals fell behind on the over rate against the Gujarat Titans in Jaipur. This was Rajasthan’s first offence.

Match 24 – Shreyas Iyer (Kolkata Knight Riders): Iyer was fined INR 12 lakh after the Knight Riders could not keep up with the over rate against the Royals at the Eden Gardens. This was Kolkata’s first offence.

Match 33 – Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians): Pandya was fined INR 12 lakhs after Mumbai Indians fell short on their over rate against the Punjab Kings at Mullanpur. This was Mumbai’s first offence.

Match 34 – KL Rahul (Lucknow Super Giants): Lucknow could not maintain the par over rate against Chennai in their home match at the Ekana Stadium. This was Lucknow’s first offence.

Match 34 – Ruturaj Gaikwad (Chennai Super Kings): In the above match, Chennai fell behind on their over rate as well, against the Super Giants in Lucknow. This was Chennai’s first offence.

Match 36 – Faf du Plessis (Royal Challengers Bengaluru): RCB could not maintain the desired over rate against Kolkata at the Eden Gardens. This was their first offence.

Match 48 – Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians): MI fell short of the over rate for the second time in the season, against the Lucknow Super Giants. As a result, captain Pandya was fined INR 24 lakh, and the rest of the team – including the Impact Player – INR 6 lakh or 25 percent of their match fee, whichever was lower.

Match 56 – Rishabh Pant (Delhi Capitals): DC fell short of the target during their home match against Rajasthan. Since this was their third offence, Pant was fined INR 20 lakh and suspended for one match. Every other DC player, including the Impact Player, was fined either INR 12 lakh or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser. DC made an unsuccessful appeal.

Match 59 – Shubman Gill (Gujarat Titans): Gill was fined INR 24 lakhs as GT committed an over rate offence for the second time this season. Other members of the playing XI were fined INR 6 lakhs or 25 per cent of their match fees, whichever was lower.

Match 67 – Hardik Pandya (Mumbai Indians): MI maintained a slow over rate against LSG at Wankhede. This was their third lapse of IPL 2024. As a result, captain Pandya was fined 100 percent of his match fees and banned for one match. Since MI will not play in IPL 2024 again, the ban will most probably be effective next season. The rest of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each fined either INR 12 lakhs or 50 percent match fees, whichever is lesser.

Match 3 – Harshit Rana (Kolkata Knight Riders): Rana was fined 60 percent of his match fees against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Kolkata on March 23. He committed two Level 1 offences under Article 2.5, for which he was fined 10 percent and 50 percent of his match fees.

Match 33 – Tim David, Kieron Pollard (Mumbai Indians): David and Pollard (batting coach of MI), were fined 20 percent of their match fees against Punjab Kings in Mullanpur on April 18. They were guilty of committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct.

Match 36 – Virat Kohli (Royal Challengers Bengaluru): Kohli was accused of violating Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Kolkata. It was a Level 1 offence, and he was fined 50 percent of his match fees.

Match 37 – Sam Curran (Punjab Kings): Punjab captain Curran was accused of violating Article 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Gujarat. He was fined 50 percent of his match fees for committing a Level 1 offence.

Match 40 – Rasikh Salam Dar (Delhi Capitals): Rasikh committed a Level 1 offence by breaching Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct against Gujarat. The extent of the penalty is unknown, but a Level 1 offence results in a fine of up to 50 percent of the match fee.

Match 43 – Ishan Kishan (Mumbai Indians): Kishan was reprimanded and fined 10 percent of his match fees for committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2. This was his first offence.

Match 47 – Harshit Rana (Kolkata Knight Riders): Rana was found guilty of committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 during the match against Delhi. He admitted to it. Since this was his second offence, he was fined 100 percent of his match fee and suspended for a match.

Match 56 – Sanju Samson (Rajasthan Royals): Samson was fined 30 percent of his match fees for committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 against Delhi. He admitted to the offence and accepted the match referee’s sanction.

Match 60 – Ramandeep Singh (Kolkata Knight Riders): Ramandeep was fined 20 percent of his match fees for committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 during Kolkata’s home match against Mumbai. He admitted to the offence and accepted the match referee’s sanction.

Match 73 (Qualifier 2) – Shimron Hetmyer (Rajasthan Royals): Shimron Hetmyer was fined 10 percent of his match fees for committing a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 during the Qualifier 2 against Hyderabad. He admitted to the offence and accepted the match referee’s sanction.
