Gujarat Titans have had an eventful three years of being an IPL franchise. They won in their debut season, finished as runners-up in their second one, and have now lost their original captain to a rival team.
Shubman Gill has been handed the leadership duties. Having had a banger of a season last time, how Gill goes about his captaincy on and off the field will determine where GT end up.

GT in IPL 2024: Team news and injury updates
Gujarat will be starting with a clean slate after Hardik Pandya was traded off to Mumbai Indians before the auction last year. However, their challenges run beyond just the absence of Pandya and a new, inexperienced captain in Gill. Their new-ball star Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the season due to injury. Rashid Khan might also be under an injury cloud, although there’s no official update yet.
On paper, things look tough for GT. They’ll have to play out of their skins to continue the momentum they have built over their first two seasons.
Gujarat Titans probable XIs with Impact player options
At home
Probable XI: Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Kane Williamson, Sai Sudharshan, Vijay Shankar, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma.
Impact player options: Sai Kishore, Kartik Tyagi
Umesh will most probably take the place of Shami as their new-ball bowler. Last season, GT excelled with the spin-combination of Rashid and Noor. The pitches in Ahmedabad can be of varying natures. Depending on the conditions and matchups, they can pick either Sai Kishore or Tyagi as the extra bowler in the form of an Impact player.
Away:
Probable XI: Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Kane Williamson, Sai Sudharshan, Vijay Shankar, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad/Spencer Johnson, Umesh Yadav, Mohit Sharma.
Impact player options: Sai Kishore, Kartik Tyagi
At venues clearly more conducive to fast bowling, GT can consider unleashing the tall left-arm quick Johnson in place of Noor. The impact player options can remain the same, although if they feel that their batting is lacking firepower, they might turn to Shahrukh or Manohar in place of any of the three Indian middle order batters in the first XI.
