Today’s IPL 2024 clash between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Jaipur has been promoted as a #PinkPromise match by the home team. Here’s what it means.

Pink Promise match

Match No.19 of this IPL, between RCB and RR, is being called a “Pink Promise” match, dedicated to women-led transformations in the state of Rajasthan, the home base of the Royals franchise. The match begins on April 6, 2024 at 7.30pm.

Solar power with every six

During the match, the Royals have announced a unique commitment: for every six that is hit by both teams, six homes will be powered with solar power.

Special all-pink matchday kits

The team will be wearing a customised kit for the match, which have names of some of the Royal Rajasthan Foundation [RRF] women beneficiaries emblazoned on them as a mark of respect. The RRF is the social equity arm of the Royals franchise.

Proceeds for charity

The Royals franchise have also announced that all proceeds from the sales of the all-pink jerseys will be donated to the RRF.

Further, for every ticket purchased for the match, ₹100 will be donated to the foundation.

Other events

Ahead of the match, homegrown female Rajasthani cultural artists and entertainers will be performing at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. A Rajasthani sand artist will be crafting solar panel-led sand art. Further, women beneficiaries from the RRF will be present, along with inspirational women from all walks of life hailing from Rajasthan. Augmented Reality player booths have been installed outside the stadium’s concourse.

Toss

At the toss, Sanjay Manjrekar explained the initiative on air, after which the captains Sanju Samson and Faf du Plessis were handed solar lamps. Rajasthan won the toss and elected to field first.
