In another fresh blow for Delhi Capitals, South African pacer Ngidi was ruled out from the upcoming IPL season due to an ankle injury. They named promising Australian batter Fraser-McGurk as his replacement. The setback came a day after Harry Brook confirmed his withdrawal from the tournament this year following the demise of his grandmother.
Delhi acquired the service of the South Australian Fraser-McGurk for his reserve price of INR 50 lakh. He shot to fame after scoring the fastest List A hundred, off 29 balls, in the 2023/24 Marsh Cup. He continued to impress in the BBL as he bludgeoned his way to a 21-ball fifty, ending the season with 257 runs at a strike rate of 159 for Melbourne Renegades. At only 21, he was fast-tracked into Australia’s ODI squad for the home series against the West Indies, and he represented his national team in two matches.

Fraser-McGurk linked up with Delhi’s sister franchise, Dubai Capitals, at the ILT20 in January, hitting 109 runs from 51 balls across three games.
Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting earmarked Fraser-McGurk as a future Test superstar and reckoned he was as talented as a young Warner. In February, Ponting foresaw him as “someone that can be well and truly fast-tracked through the Australian system.
“With the talent and the skill that [Warner] had – Jake has got as much talent as David had come coming through … the earlier they can get him into the system [the better]. Get him playing and letting him work out for himself the best way to have success in all the different formats.”
