Shreyas Gopal, playing for Karnataka in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, bagged his third T20 hat-trick today (December 3), matching an Indian record. Here’s where his performance ranks on the list of players with the most hat-tricks in the format.
In the star-studded match, Karnataka were reduced to 34-3 after choosing to bat first against Baroda. Gopal, sent in at No.5, contributed with 18 in a 48-run partnership with R Smaran. After they were dismissed, Abhinav Manohar’s 34-ball 56 not out took the batting team to 168-8.
In response, Baroda were well placed at 102-1 after 10 overs. Gopal, coming in to bowl his second over, struck off the first ball to dismiss Shashwat Rawat for 63 off 37. He then dismissed both the Pandya brothers for a golden duck to claim a hat-trick, giving Karnataka a sniff in the match.
Gopal's figures of 4-19 eventually went in vain as Baroda keeper Vishnu Solanki remained unbeaten on 28 to guide his team to a four-wicket win with seven balls left.

Players with the most hat-tricks in T20s
Gopal now has the joint second-most hat-tricks in T20 cricket, levelling with five others on the list. He is the second India bowler after wrist-spinner Amit Mishra to claim three hat-tricks. Mishra achieved the feat in IPL between 2008 and 2013, becoming the only bowler to do so in the history of the tournament.
12 bowlers have taken two hat-tricks, among which Serbia's Mark Pavlovic and Malta's Waseem Abbas are the only ones from Associate Member nations. Pat Cummins recorded successive hat-tricks against Bangladesh and Afghanistan in this year's T20I World Cup, becoming the only bowler to do so.
Rashid Khan is the only bowler to have four to his name.
