Tilak Varma became the first player to hit three back to back centuries in T20s

Tilak Varma smashed 151 in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy yesterday (November 23) to register the highest score by an Indian batter in men’s T20s.

Tilak continued his red-hot form in the format. Captaining Hyderabad in their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 opener against Meghalaya, Tilak smashed 151 off 67. Having already hit two centuries on the trot for India during their recent series against South Africa, the hundred was Tilak’s third in a row. He became the first player to achieve the feat in the format.

Tilak, coming in at No.3 struck at 225.37, launching 14 fours and 10 sixes before being dismissed off the last ball of Hyderabad’s innings, which ended on 248-4, the fifth-highest total in the history of the tournament.

During the blazing knock, the southpaw batter surpassed Shreyas Iyer's 147 for Mumbai against Sikkim in SMAT 2019, becoming the first Indian male cricketer to hit a 150 in T20s. Kiran Navgire, who now represents Maharashtra, had previously scored a 162 for Nagaland against Arunachal Pradesh in the 2022 Senior Women's T20 Trophy.

Iyer is the only player to feature on this list twice. On the same day Tilak achieved the feat, Iyer, leading Mumbai, also scored a brilliant 130 not out in his side’s 26-run win against Goa. Iyer's knock is now the seventh-highest by an Indian in men's T20s.
