India's Shreyas Iyer pulled off a brilliant piece of fielding against Sri Lanka on Sunday.

Shreyas Iyer pulled off a stunning piece of fielding during the second ODI between India and Sri Lanka in Colombo, to run out Kamindu Mendis.

Sri Lankan captain Charith Asalanka had won the toss and chosen to bat first, as both sides looked to take the lead in the series following a tie in the first ODI on Friday.

Mohammed Siraj struck off the first ball of the match to remove Pathum Nissanka before the Indian spinners applied the squeeze in the middle overs to reduce the hosts to 136-6. Dunith Wellalage and Kamindu Mendis then came together to put on 72 for the seventh wicket before Wellalage was dismissed for 39.

Mendis was still at the crease during the final over of the innings. Off the fifth ball, he attempted to take on a short delivery from Arshdeep Singh but skied the ball into the on-side, where it landed safely as no fielder could get to it.

Attempting to keep the strike, Mendis turned back for a second run, and was nearly halfway through when Shreyas Iyer recovered the ball. Iyer released the ball, aiming for the stumps at the striker's end. From well outside the 30-yard circle, the throw pinged off the stumps, catching Mendis well short, in an extraordinary display of skill.
