At around 4:35 pm local time, the entirety of the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, where the second T20I is supposed to take place, was under covers with rain pelting down.

SL vs IND, 2nd T20I: Pallekele weather forecast
AccuWeather predicts a cloudy night with "thunderstorms in spots" and an overall 86 per cent chance of precipitation. The match is scheduled to start at 7 pm local time, when a 32 per cent chance of rain is predicted.
Throughout the match hours, the percentage doesn't fluctuate much, but does increase to 37 at around 11 pm, by the time the game should end.
Worldweatheronline.com, meanwhile, predicts a 79 per cent chance of rain at 10 pm local time.
What happens is the match is washed out?
If no play is possible, the match will be abandoned. Since it's a bilateral series with a packed schedule, no reserve day is in place.
The third T20I, also at the same venue, will be played two days later on July 30.
SL vs IND: What happened in the first T20I?
In the first match of the series, played on Saturday (July 27) at the same venue, India put up a big score of 213 batting first. Captain Suryakumar Yadav top-scored with 58 off 26, while Rishabh Pant chipped in with a scratchy 49 off 33. Matheesha Pathirana took four wickets for Sri Lanka, but went for 40 runs.

In response, Sri Lanka added 84 for the first wicket with Pathum Nissanka making 79 off 48 and Kusal Mendis scoring 45 off 27. It went downhill from there as they were bowled out for 170, 44 short of the target.
