SL vs IND ODI squads

India and Sri Lanka will battle it out in a three-match ODI series beginning on Friday (August 2), three days after the T20I series ends. The three games will be held in Colombo, with the last two matches scheduled for August 4 and August 7.

India’s squad for Sri Lanka ODIs: Latest updates

Ahead of the series, there was plenty of chatter around the availability of senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the ODIs. However, new head coach Gautam Gambhir will have the two stalwarts for the tour as India begin their preparations for the Champions Trophy, scheduled for early next year in Pakistan.

This will be the first ODI series both Rohit and Kohli will play since the ODI World Cup final loss last November.

The series will also mark the comeback of Shreyas Iyer, who will play his first international game since he was snubbed off a central contract. Since then, Iyer led Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL trophy under the mentorship of Gambhir.

Hardik Pandya (personal reasons) and Jasprit Bumrah (rested) have not been picked for the ODI series, while Ravindra Jadeja has been overlooked. However, chief selector Ajit Agarkar clarified that the left-hander had not been “dropped”. In his place, Washington Sundar and Riyan Parag have been picked along with Axar Patel.

Sri Lanka’s squad for ODIs against India

Sri Lanka have named their squad for the ODIs, which will be led by Charith Asalanka. Asalanka takes over from Kusal Mendis, who was appointed the ODI skipper at the start of the year. Under Mendis' captaincy, Sri Lanka won six of nine ODIs in 2024. Mendis, however, remains a part of the 16-member team.

Sri Lanka will be without pace bowling duo Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka for the ODI series. Pathirana injured his shoulder while fielding in the third T20I, and the team management reportedly do not want to risk aggravating it by playing him in the ODIs. Madushanka, meanwhile, suffered a Grade 2 hamstring injury during training.

Uncapped pacers Mohamed Shiraz and Eshan Malinga have been called up as replacements. In addition, Kusal Janith Perera, Pramod Madushan and Jeffrey Vandersay have been added to the squad as standby players.
