India begin their first international assignment post T20 World Cup win against Sri Lanka later this week, with a new captain and coach combo at the helm. Here are the full squad lists for the series, as well as player and injury news.
India will play three T20Is in Sri Lanka, starting on Saturday, July 27, before a three-match ODI series. All three of the T20Is will take place in Pallekele, with the ODI series based in Colombo.
The series will be India's first under their new head coach Gautam Gambhir, who was appointed to the role after Rahul Dravid stepped down after the recent T20 World Cup. Gambhir has also appointed a new T20I captain, after Rohit Sharma retired from the format. While he was expected to name Hardik Pandya, who was India's vice captain in the T20 World Cup, he instead named Suryakumar Yadav, with Shubman Gill named as his vice captain. Rohit Sharma will continue to lead in ODIs, with Gill again as vice captain.
In India's injury news, there is still no Mohammed Shami, who has not played any professional cricket since November 2023 and has undergone ankle surgery in that time. His goal is reportedly to be fit in time for India's next home Tests, which will take place in September.
Sri Lanka also have a new T20I captain after Wanindu Hasaranga's resignation. Charith Asalanka will lead the home side in the T20I series, having led Sri Lanka previously in Bangladesh earlier this year when Hasaranga was suspended. Dinesh Chandimal is also back in the T20I squad, having last played a T20I in early 2022. However, Angelo Mathews who made a comeback to both white-ball formats in the last 12 months, has no been included in the squad.
Fast-bowler Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the series with a respiratory infection. Asitha Fernando has been called up as his replacement in the T20I squad.
