The first ODI between India and Sri Lanka was tied after India collapsed dramatically, failing to chase down 231 in Colombo.

The tied match between India and Sri Lanka was the 44th instance in men's ODIs. The game followed the third T20I between India and Sri Lanka, which had also ended in a tie, with India winning via a Super Over.

Sri Lanka managed 230-8 in the first innings: in response, India started well with the bat, and were 75-0 at one point, but kept losing wickets regularly. It reached a point where India were 230-9, one needed with 14 balls to go. However, No.11 Arshdeep Singh decided to go for a big heave, and was out lbw, leaving the match tied.
