Shubman Gill missed India’s second T20I against Sri Lanka on Sunday due to a neck spasm. Here’s the latest updates about his injury and probable comeback date.

During the curtain-raiser, Gill scored a 16-ball 34 in India’s highest powerplay score (74) against Sri Lanka. The innings was significant since the opening batter shed his conservative approach following criticism of his strike rate. The very next day, India took the field for the second T20I, but they were without their vice-captain. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav revealed a neck sparm forced Gill out of the match, with Sanju Samson as his replacement.

There have been a lot of rumours about whether Gill will play a further part in the series. By some of the reports, it seems Gill’s time on the sidelines could be longer than just a match.

According to a RevSportz journalist on X (formerly Twiter), "A call will be taken on Shubman gill before tomorrow’s game - possibly a couple hours before - currently being assessed."

Given India have already sealed the series, it won’t be surprising if they rest Gill for the dead rubber, considering the upcoming ODI series against the same opponents.

India opted for Samson to open the batting on Sunday, but the move didn’t pay off. Maheesh Theekshana castled his stump to send the wicketkeeper-batter packing for a golden duck. With Gill’s probable absence, he might get another look in. Having found himself out of the ODI team earlier despite scoring a century in his last appearance against South Africa, another failure could prompt Samson’s ouster from the T20I outfit.
