Gautam Gambhir's first assignment as India's new head coach is a white-ball tour of Sri Lanka, set to start from July 27. The squad for the tour was announced on Thursday (July 18) by the BCCI.
India's ODI squad will be led by Rohit Sharma, and the T20I squad by Suryakumar Yadav. Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for both formats. It had been expected that Hardik Pandya would be given the responsibility of leading India in the shortest format, but he has lost out on the post to 'SKY', his teammate at Mumbai Indians.

Interestingly, opening batter Shubman Gill has been named India's vice-captain in both formats. The ODI squad contains a return for batter Shreyas Iyer, who was dropped midway through the Test series against England earlier this year. KL Rahul is also in the side, while Ravindra Jadeja has not been included.

There are maiden call-ups for Riyan Parag and Harshit Rana in the ODI format. Parag made his India debut, in T20Is, on the recent tour of Zimbabwe while Rana is yet to play for the country in any format. Shivam Dube and Khaleel Ahmed could also make their ODI debuts while Washington Sundar will be looking to add to his four caps so far.

India's T20I squad contains nine players who toured Zimbabwe in mid-July. Those added in are Suryakumar Yadav (as captain), Arshdeep Singh, Mohammad Siraj, Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant. Washington Sundar was the player of the series on that tour, and could be in contention to take Ravindra Jadeja's spot in the main Indian XI.
Riyan Parag will be given another chance to impress after getting limited opportunities in Zimbabwe, but Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad, who impressed on that tour, have been left out.
