Ahead of the ODIs, Australia won a Test series in Sri Lanka for the first time since 2011, a rare series win in Asia keeps the touring side in good stead ahead of the 2025 World Test Championship final.
Now, the action moves towards white-ball cricket as Australia will be looking to switch gears ahead of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy which begins on February 19 in Pakistan. Currently without a captain, two of their best fast bowlers, and two of their best all-rounders, Australia would be auditioning some of the players in the first ODI on Wednesday, which is also the deadline for naming the squad changes for the eight-team tournament.
On the other hand, Sri Lanka has a lot less at stake as they are not one of the eight teams taking part in the tournament hosted by Pakistan. The Lions have named a 16-member squad with Chamindu Wickramasinghe left out from the 17-member touring party that lost 2-1 to New Zealand in January.
