Josh Inglis has become the second-fastest to score a century on Test debut, taking just 90 balls to reach three figures during the first Test against Sri Lanka.
Inglis, who has already played 26 ODIs and 29 T20Is for Australia, made his way into the Test side at the expense of Sam Konstas, with Travis Head promoted to open the batting. He came in at No.5, after Australia had already laid a solid platform, with Steve Smith departing on 141, and Usman Khawaja not too far away from his maiden double century.
Sri Lanka vs Australia: Khawaja gets out on career-best score
Khawaja eventually reached that landmark, and combined with Inglis to put on a 146-run stand for the fifth wicket. Inglis started steadily, taking 21 balls for his first 15 runs, but quickly gathered pace as he moved into his 30s. His fifty came off 51 balls, but it only took him a further 39 balls to reach 100, even as Khawaja perished on the way. He ended as one of the oldest Test double centurions in the game.
The century came in the 132nd over of Australia's innings, taking their total to 566-4. It's the 29-year-old Inglis' eight century in first-class cricket.

The record for the fastest Test century on debut still stands with Shikhar Dhawan, for his 2013 effort against Australia. He took 85 balls to get to the milestone, with West Indies' Dwayne Smith, now in third place, taking 93 balls in 2004 against South Africa.
Inglis couldn't carry on too long after his century though, dismissed by Prabath Jayasuriya on 102 off 94. It pushed Australia close to 600, with no declaration immediately in sight.
