Watch: Umran’s Malik’s 90mph corker was rapid enough to send Maheesh Theekshana’s off stump cartwheeling, but was perhaps too fast for the Zing bails which failed to light up despite the uprooted stumps.
Umran chipped in with a couple of wickets in India’s comprehensive 91-run win over Sri Lanka in the deciding game of the three-match T20I series in Rajkot. Earlier this week, he sent down what was described by BCCI’s social media team as the “fastest delivery bowled by a Team India pacer”. That delivery – to dismiss Dasun Shanaka – was clocked at 155kph [96mph].
The third T20I once again saw him at his speedy best, troubling Sri Lanka’s batters with the extra yard of pace. For No.9 Theekshana, Umran’s 90mph offering was too much to handle, as it slipped past his bat and uprooted the off stump. In a style that’s now becoming his trademark, Umran celebrated with a flying kiss and a little punch in the air.
India’s 2-1 series win has now extended their unbeaten streak in bilateral T20I series at home to 12.
