Watch: Suryakumar Yadav’s trademark scoop shot went awry during the 1st T20I against Sri Lanka at Mumbai as he was dismissed by Chamika Karunaratne.
The dismissal occurred on the first ball of the sixth over. India had negotiated their way to 38-1 when Suryakumar decided to take the attack to Sri Lanka. Karunaratne bowled the ball on a length outside off stump. Suryakumar got into position quickly and tried to scoop the ball over the fielder at short fine leg. The only problem, though, was that the ball stuck in the surface and the ball clinked off the toe end of the bat towards short fine leg, where Bhanuka Rajapaksa completed the catch comfortably.
Suryakumar’s dismissal pegged India back and it was not until Axar Patel and Deepak Hooda combined towards the end of the innings that India injected momentum into their innings. The pair added 68 runs in fewer than six overs and ensured that India posted a competitive total on the board.
