Sri Lanka ended their Test series against England on a high after beating the hosts comprehensively at the Oval - here’s what the World Test Championship table looks like after the result.
The third and final match of the England-Sri Lanka Test series ended within four days as the visitors sealed a memorable eight-wicket victory. Having earned a 62-run first-innings lead, England collapsed to 82-7 in the second innings before partially recovering to reach 156 in 34 overs. Jamie Smith’s counterattacking 67 took them to a fighting total as Lahiru Kumara (4-21) and Vishwa Fernando (3-40) were the pick of the bowlers.
In reply, Sri Lanka chased down 219 in the fourth innings with eight wickets remaining, thanks to Pathum Nissanka’s 127 not out. This was the tourists’ fourth Test win in the opposition’s backyard.
What a fantastic victory to end the series! Sri Lanka beat England by 8 wickets in the 3rd Test.
