Lions in driver's seat
SACA graduate Zaman Akhter starred with the ball on the opening day, skittling out Sri Lanka for 139. The pacer picked up 5-32, aided by Josh Hull (3-30), the 19-year lanky left-arm speedster who England have earmarked for the future.
The Lions replied with a strong batting effort. Riding on Hamza Shaikh’s 204-ball 91 and Kasey Aldridge’s blistering 78, the hosts put 324 on the boards. Aldridge’s 96-ball blitzkrieg was decorated with seven fours and two sixes.
"Realistically, England aren't going to find their magic player to do both roles in the series in the absence of Ben Stokes but there are options on the county circuit, who could have been given a call-up in his absence."
