Sri Lanka made a superb comeback on day one of the first Test against England at Old Trafford, but the start of day two has been delayed. Here are the weather updates for day two of the match.

On day one, England took the upper hand early on as they reduced Sri Lanka to 6-3 and then 40-4. However, a superb fightback from captain Dhananjaya de Silva (74) helped the tourists recover, before debutant Milan Rathnayake slammed 72 from No.9 to help his side post 236.

Sri Lanka managed to bowl four overs on day one, all by spinners due to the poor light at the end of the day. England made their way to 22-0.

The start of play on day two has been delayed by rain. While the drizzle stopped 10 minutes prior to the start of play, the outfield remains too damp to get underway. Here's what the forecast looks like for the rest of the day.

ENG vs SL 2024 1st Test Day 2: What is the rain forecast during the game?

BBC Weather puts the chances of rain down at 90% from 11am (scheduled start time) through to noon. It does come down to around 45% by 1pm, but even if the rain stops by that point there will be some time needed to dry and prepare the outfield for use. The rest of the day is predicted to be relatively rain-free, with 8% at 2pm the highest forecast.

AccuWeather predicts a slightly more grim situation. It predicts a 75% chance of rain around noon, before going down to 49% by 1pm. However, chances hover around 30% until 4pm, meaning that it is possible that rain continues to fall throughout the day.

Weather.com is closer to BBC Weather than Accuweather. It predicts that the rain should stop by around 12:30pm. The chances of thereafter do not go past 14% at 1pm, which is a much better sign for the match.
