It will be Australia’s first series since the departure of head coach Justin Langer, with Andrew McDonald filling in the interim. The Australia side will be looking to gather some much-needed match experience at home as they mount their defence for the T20 World Cup later this year.
Sri Lanka have recalled Kusal Mendis and Danushka Gunathilaka since the two were suspended for breaking Covid protocol. Dasun Shanaka will lead the side. Australia will miss the services of David Warner and Mitchell Marsh, who will join the squad for the Pakistan tour that follows. BBL player of the year Ben McDermott is part of the side.
AUS vs SL, 2022: Venues for the T20I series
On January 20, Cricket Australia confirmed the schedule for the five T20Is, saying that they will be held across three venues. The last three T20Is have been relocated from Adelaide and Queensland, in a bid to minimise risks related to biosecurity during the series.
The matches will now be held at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Manuka Oval and Melbourne Cricket Ground.
