South Africa thumped Sri Lanka in the first of the two-match Test series in Durban - here's the updated WTC points table following the first SA vs SL Test.
After being put to bat first, South Africa were bundled out for 191 on a lively Kingsmead pitch. Temba Bavuma (70), returning from an injury, was the only batter to stand tall. For the tourists, Asitha Fernando and Lahiru Kumara took three wickets each.
In response, the home side skittled Sri Lanka for 42 in just 13.5 overs, the lowest total in their history and the third-lowest by any side since 1974. Marco Jansen was the wrecker in chief, finishing with 7-13 in 6.5 overs. In the process, Jansen equalled the world record for the fastest seven-wicket haul, matching Australia's Hugh Trumble’s 7-28 against England in 1904 at the MCG.

In the second innings, hundreds from Bavuma (113) and Tristan Stubbs (122), helped South Africa set a massive target of 516 for the visitors. Sri Lanka batters had no answers as they were bowled out for 282 runs, succumbing to a 233-run defeat.
Updated WTC points table: South Africa climb to second
After the dominant victory, South Africa jumped three places to the second position by displacing Australia, who dropped a place. The win boosted their points percentage from 54.17 to 59.25. On the other hand, Sri Lanka, ranked third entering the series, slipped to fifth, and currently have a PCT of 50 from 10 matches.
With this win, South Africa are well in contention to make it to the WTC final. Winning the remaining match against Sri Lanka and two upcoming home Tests against Pakistan should see them through. The tourists, meanwhile, would hope to level the series to fancy their chances of qualifying for the summit clash.
