In the 2024 Durban against South Africa, Prabath Jayasuriya took his 100th Test wicket, becoming the second-quickest in history to the milestone.
Jayasuriya came into the Durban Test match with 97 Test wickets under his belt. In the first innings, he trapped Marco Jansen leg-before and had Gerald Coetzee caught in the deep, but did not get another wicket. He finished with 2-24, one short of the coveted milestone of 100 Test wickets as the hosts folded for 191.
In a whirlwind 13.5-over burst, South Africa then bowled out Sri Lanka for 42, the lowest ever Test total for the tourists and the second-shortest all-out total of all time. Jansen led the rout, with 7-13.
There was, however, some joy for Jayasuriya in the evening session when Tony di Zorzi holed out to deep square-leg off him while going for a slog. That gave Jayasuriya his 100th Test wicket.
It took Jayasuriya only 17 Tests to reach the landmark, one more than George Lohmann, who holds the world record. Four others have got there in 17 Tests, but of them, Yasir Shah is the only one to have played after the Wars.

Jayasuriya is also only the eighth Sri Lankan to the 100-wicket mark, after Muttiah Muralidaran (800), Rangana Herath (433), Chaminda Vaas (355), Suranga Lakmal (171), Dilruwan Perera (161), Lasith Malinga (101), and Dilhara Fernando (100). Thanks to his three wickets in the first innings, Jayasuriya’s teammate Lahiru Kumara is on 99 wickets.
