Watch: Shaheen Shah Afridi and Matthew Breetzke had to be separated by the umpires in a heated incident during the third match of Pakistan's ODI tri-series against South Africa today (February 12).
The incident started during the 28th over of the first innings, shortly after Breetzke had reached a half-century. Off the penultimate ball of Shaheen's over, which Breetzke knocked into the on-side for no run, the bowler walked down the pitch to exchange words with Breetzke, seemingly unhappy with a gesture the South African had made with his bat. This prompted the umpires to intervene to turn Shaheen back towards his mark.

After Shaheen bowled the final ball of his over, the clash intensified. Breetzke tucked a full ball from Shaheen off his pads and called Temba Bavuma through for a single. As Breetzke ran down the pitch, he and Shaheen made slight contact with the batter almost tripping. Following the collision, Shaheen walked straight over to Breetzke, with the two players once again exchanging words in close proximity to each other. The umpires once again intervened to separate the players, with Bavuma also pulling his player away.
In the following over, Bavuma was run out by Saud Shakeel after a miscommunication with Breetzke. In celebration, Shakeel rushed over to Bavuma and gave him an animated send off, with the South Africa captain having to walk back for 82.
Breetzke went on to score 83 off 84 balls before he was dismissed, caught at short cover by Agha Salman. The dismissal brought to an end the possibility of Breetzke becoming the first batter ever to score back-to-back hundreds in their first two innings in men's ODIs. Breetzke scored 150 on debut against New Zealand earlier this week.
The winner of the clash between the two sides will play New Zealand in the final of the tri-series on Friday (February 14).
