Pakistan will travel to South Africa for a three-format tour of the country starting on December 10 and stretching into the new year. Here are the full squad lists for the series.
Pakistan have named all of their squads for the tour while South Africa have yet to name theirs for either the ODIs or the two-match Test series. There will, however, be several big names rested for the T20I series for South Africa, with Heinrich Klaasen set to captain the side in the absence of Aiden Markram, who is involved in the ongoing Test match against Sri Lanka which will finish the day before the opening T20I. The hosts will also be without other all-format players Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada and Tristan Stubbs. All will be available for selection from the ODI series onwards.
There was a surprise in Pakistan's Test squad, with Mohammad Abbas back in the side after a three-year absence. While Shaheen Shah Afridi has been selected for both white-ball series, he will miss the Test leg of the tour. A PCB media release read: "Shaheen Shah Afridi, who also missed the last two Tests against England, has been picked for the white-ball matches as part of his workload management so that he is in his best fitness and form for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025."
Abbas's inclusion was undoubtedly the headline news from the squad announcement. Abbas's last Test came against West Indies in 2021. He has played 25 Test matches in all, taking 90 wickets at an average of 23. He is the second-highest wicket-taker in the ongoing season of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, with 31 wickets across five matches so far.
The series will begin with three T20Is, starting on December 10 in Durban, with the next two stops at Centurion and Johannesburg. The ODIs will then start on December 17 in Paarl, with Cape Town and Johannesburg the venues for the second two 50-over games. The first Test will begin on Boxing Day at Centurion, while the second will be played in Cape Town from January 3.
