Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has announced his retirement from international cricket for the second time in 13 months.

Imad originally retired from international cricket in November last year, saying via a statement on X (formerly Twitter) that he had come to the conclusion that it was the "right time" for him to step away from representing Pakistan.

However, he enjoyed an excellent Pakistan Super League season for Islamabad United in February and March of this year, scoring 126 runs and picking up 12 wickets with his left-arm spin. That campaign, along with discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board was motivation enough for him to reverse his retirement, and Imad thanked the PCB for "reposing trust in him".

He continued to represent Pakistan in bilateral series against England and New Zealand after the PSL, in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies. He played three of four Pakistan's group matches – against Canada, India and Ireland – missing their match against USA which ended in a tie before the hosts triumphed in a Super Over.

The T20 World Cup group stage match against Ireland in Lauderhill is Imad's most recent international match, having not been called up for the bilateral T20I series against Zimbabwe, Australia or South Africa since then.

On Friday (December 13), Imad took to X to write, "To all fans & supporters: After much thought and reflection, I have decided to retire from international cricket. Representing Pakistan on the world stage has been the greatest honor of my life, and every moment wearing the green jersey has been unforgettable.

"Your unwavering support, love, and passion have always been my biggest strength. From the highs to the lows, your encouragement has pushed me to give my best for our beloved country.

"While this chapter comes to an end, I look forward to continuing my journey in cricket through domestic and franchise cricket, and I hope to keep entertaining you all in new ways.

"Thank you for everything. Pakistan"

Pakistan are currently involved in a three-match T20I series against South Africa. The second match is later today, and they will be looking to hit back after suffering an 11-run loss in Durban three days ago.
