Pakistan lost the Test series to South Africa 0-2 - here are the ratings for the visiting team.
Shan Masood: 8/10
192 runs @ 48, HS: 145
Masood played out 362 balls in the series, the most among all Pakistan batters. He saw off the new ball in the first Test before making a fighting 145 after his team was asked to follow on. It was the highest Test score by a Pakistan batter in South Africa.
Babar Azam: 9/10
193 runs @ 48.25, HS: 81
Babar made three fifties, only missing out in the first innings of the first Test. After being dropped from the squad against England, Babar scripted a fine comeback, with his performance in the second Test, particularly securing his place for the near future. He made 58 in Pakistan’s total of 194 in the first innings before making 81 while following on.
Saim Ayub: 4/10
41 runs @ 20.50, HS: 27
1 wicket @ 3, BBI: 1-3
Ayub only batted in the first Test before being injured midway through the second. Ayub made a cautious 35-ball 14 and then followed it up with a counter-attacking 27 off 36 balls with six fours.
Kamran Ghulam: 4/10
98 runs @ 24.50, HS: 54
Ghulam, who impressed during the England series, walked out to bat at 41-3 in the first innings at Centurion, which soon became 56-4. He held anchor, making 54 in 71 with eight boundaries and a six, and was the only batter from his team to cross 30 in the total of 211. There wasn't much else of note though.
Saud Shakeel: 5/10
121 runs @ 30.25, HS: 84
Shakeel started the tour with a six-ball 14 in a bid to break the momentum of the threatening South Africa bowlers. He top-scored in the next innings with another quickfire knock, making 84 in 113 deliveries at a strike rate of 74.34.
Mohammad Rizwan: 5/10
117 runs @ 29.25, HS: 46
Like most of the other Pakistan batters, Rizwan too got starts in the series but was unable to convert them. He made 27 in 62 balls at Centurion before making 46 and 41 against a threatening pace attack in the second Test. He would, however, rue the missed chances.
Salman Ali Agha: 4/10
86 runs @ 21.50, HS: 48
3 wickets @ 57.66, BBI: 3-148
Agha made 48 off 95 balls in the second innings of the second Test but had three scores of below 20 in his remaining outings. He also got three wickets during South Africa’s marathon batting innings, dismissing Tristan Stubbs, Temba Bavuma and Kyle Verreynne, with the latter two scoring hundreds.
Aamer Jamal: 2/10
2 wickets @ 78.50, BBI: 2-36
95 runs @ 23.75, HS: 34
The pacer was not able to maximise the conditions on offer, going wicketless twice. He also leaked runs at 5.41 an over, the highest from his side. Jamal did make contributions with the bat but that is not the primary reason why he was in the team.
Khurram Shahzad: 3/10
6 wickets @ 40.83, BBI: 3-75
Shahzad was one of two Pakistan bowlers to get more than five wickets in the series. He got three wickets in his first innings of the tour but was also expensive, conceding 4.45 runs every over.
Mir Hamza: 1/10
2 wickets @ 63.50, BBI: 2-127
Hamza also had a poor outing and did not leave a mark in his comeback series, after not playing a Test against England.
Mohammad Abbas: 8/10
10 wickets @ 24.60, BBI: 6-54
Abbas was sensational in the second innings of the first Test, bowling unchanged on the last day as Pakistan sniffed a win. He scalped six wickets but his efforts went in vain. He also got three wickets in the second Test, including dismissing Wiaan Mulder for five.
Naseem Shah: 3/10
4 wickets @ 31.50, BBI: 3-92
Naseem played one game before he was dropped from the second game. In the second innings of the first Test, when Abbas was tearing through the South African line-up with six wickets, Naseem managed only 1-34 in nine overs.
