England celebrate with the Series Winner trophy during the 3rd IWC ODI match between South Africa and England at JB Marks Oval on December 11, 2024 in Potchefstroom, South Africa

England’s six-wicket win in a rain-curtailed women’s ODI in Potchefstroom helped them beat South Africa by 2-1 in the three-match series. Here are the updated standings for the ICC Women's Championship following the series.

On a day that was interrupted by rain, England overcame a DLS-revised target of 152 in 23 overs with four overs to spare, thanks to Tammy Beaumont’s 90-run stand for the fifth wicket with Amy Jones. While Beaumont finished on 65 not out off 46, Jones remained unbeaten on 49.

The win gave England a 2-1 victory in the series, having lost the opener in Kimberley last week. They also clean-swept the preceding T20Is 3-0.

The win helped second-placed England increase their lead over third-ranked India, who lost their three-match series against Australia 0-3, in the ICC Women’s Championship standings. The third edition of the competition running between 2022 and 2025 will determine the sides which will automatically qualify for the Women’s Cricket World Cup next year. The top five-ranked side apart from hosts India will gain direct entry.

Apart from top-three sides Australia, England and India, South Africa have also qualified after securing victory in the opening match of the home series.

With two spots still up for grabs, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Bangladesh and West Indies will have a chance to secure direct entry.
