The first match will be played between February 4 and 8 in Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, before the two sides reconvene for the second Test between February 13 and 17 in Seddon Park, Hamilton.

On their previous New Zealand tour in 2021-22, South Africa were blown away in the first Test by an innings and 276 runs before Kagiso Rabada’s 8-104 helped them to win the second match by 198 runs, levelling the series 1-1.

However, the visitors’ squad has a new look this time, as most of their first-choice members are busy with their commitment to the ongoing SA20. The group has as many as seven uncapped players, including skipper Neil Brand. Only three players – Keegan Petersen, Zubayr Hamza and Beddingham – are part of the 14-member group from the previous 2023-24 Test series against India.

For New Zealand, Tim Southee will captain a 13-player group featuring star batters Kane Williamson and Rachin Ravindra among others. Williamson has returned after missing the 4-1 victorious T20I home series against Pakistan due to a side strain. Left-hander Henry Nicholls and spinners Ajaz Patel and Ish Sodhi, part of the Test squad that registered a 1-1 draw in Bangladesh, have been axed.
