Watch: In an amusing series of events, a ball boy caught a David Miller six in Lucknow, right after India’s fielders dropped two catches off consecutive deliveries and misfielded the third.
In a rain-affected ODI reduced to 40-overs-a-side, Miller and Heinrich Klaasen managed to rebuild and take South Africa to a competitive score after the tourists found themselves on 110-4 after 22.2 overs. Miller came in at the fall of Quinton de Kock’s wicket with 16 overs still to go, and stitched together an unbeaten 139-run stand with Klaasen.
Off the 38th over of the innings, bowled by Avesh Khan, Klaasen and Miller received a reprieve apiece in the form of dropped catches. The first ball, to Klaasen, saw a juggling Mohammad Siraj spill a catch at deep midwicket; next ball, Ravi Bishnoi missed another chance, diving to at fine leg but failing to get his hands on a pull from Miller. To make things worse, Ishan Kishan, at point, misfielded off the next ball, giving South Africa four more runs.
In a funny twist, a ball boy caught the next one – Miller smashed a short ball over the midwicket ropes, where the kid casually completed the catch, showing the India fielders how it’s done. As pointed out by Mike Haysman on commentary: “If you want to learn how to catch a ball as a cricketer, that’s how you do it. Perfect.”
