Watch: Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Aiden Markram for a duck with an unplayable delivery in the first ODI of the ongoing three-match series against South Africa.
The ripper of a delivery from Kuldeep came at the end of his first over and sent Markram back without a run to his name, having faced four balls from the left-arm wrist spinner before. Kuldeep set up the dismissal beautifully: off the first ball, he produced a leading edge, before beating him all ends up with a googly in his second delivery. With Markram not picking Kuldeep whatsoever, he foxed him again the ball before the wicket with a shorter ball hitting him on the pad.
Finally, Kuldeep tossed the ball up outside the off-stump, drawing Markram onto his front foot and found prodigious turn, with the ball sharply spinning past the South Africa batter’s inside edge, ricocheting off his pad, and clattering into the stumps.
It was the second wicket South Africa had lost in consecutive overs after Shardul Thakur bowled the tourists’ captain Temba Bavuma six balls earlier. Kuldeep’s ripper left South Africa 71-3 after 16 overs. Earlier, India’s captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss after a rain delay and chose to chase in a match reduced to 40 overs per side.
