With a pull shot off Kagiso Rabada, Khawaja brought up his fourth century at the ground where he made both his First-class and Test debuts.

Shortly after reaching three figures, Khawaja’s average at the SCG moved to 116.3. This is the second-highest of any batter to bat more than 10 innings at a single venue in Test history behind only Don Bradman, who averaged 128.5 at the MCG. If he reaches 195 today, Khawaja will continue to hold second place even if he gets out.

Khawaja was recalled to the Australia Test team at the start of 2022 after an almost three year absence and has been in sensational form ever since.

In his first match back, he scored twin hundreds against England at Sydney (obviously) before scoring 1,080 runs across the year including a century in the nation of his birth Pakistan.

Today he batted confidently and without giving South Africa a chance. The closest the visitors came to taking his wicket was when Khawaja turned for a risky two to bring up his century but the throw was wild and Khawaja’s subsequent celebrations even wilder.

Khawaja’s run at the venue reads 37 and 21, 13 and 79 not out, 171, 27 and 4 not out, 137 and 101 not out, and now 172 not out. At the time of writing, Australia are 394-3.
