Watch: Mitchell Starc warned Theunis de Bruyn after the latter had been wandering too far out of his crease before Starc had released the ball.

Starc, who is playing with a badly injured finger, warned de Bruyn after the batter had consistently been leaving the crease at the non-striker’s end before Starc had released the ball.

When asked about the incident at the drinks break by Fox Sports, Starc said, “I think he was halfway down Punt Road, wasn’t he? Just letting him know if I have to keep my foot behind the line, he can keep his bat behind the line.”

After his initial warning, Starc then had some choice words for de Bruyn who had begun to wander out of his crease again. Telling him, “stay in your crease, it’s not that hard. The line’s there for a reason.”

The dismissal has been a great talking point over the last year, in particular flaring up when Deepti Sharma won India the game against England at Lord’s when she ran out Charlie Dean. This year, the dismissal was moved from the ICC’s “Unfair Play” section, to being classified as a regular “Run Out”.
