The SA20 auction for the 2025 tournament will take place today in Cape Town, in which each of the six sides will finalise their squads. Here's where you can watch the auction live.
SA20 auction: Who are the players up for grabs?
There are plenty of big names up for grabs in the auction, including West Indies' pace bowling sensation Shamar Joseph, as well as Naseem Shah, Martin Guptill and England's Ollie Robinson and Saqib Mahmood. A total of 198 players will go under the hammer for a place in the tournament, all competing for 13 slots, plus six rookie slots, across all six teams. 115 of those are South African players, while 73 are from overseas.
Teams mostly finalised their squads through player retentions earlier in the year, including the marquee signing of Ben Stokes, who will play for MI Cape Town. The competition will start on January 9 next year and will finish with the final on February 8. The six teams competing are MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Pretoria Capitals, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Joburg Super Kings and Durban Super Giants, all owned by IPL franchise owners.
The league stage, in which 30 games will take place, will be followed by Qualifier One on February 4, with the winner of that game progressing to the final. The loser will play in Qualifier Two on February 6, where they will face the winner of the Eliminator which will have taken place on February 5.
