Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal has been ruled out of the semi-final between Mumbai and Vidarbha owing to ankle pain which resurfaced during the net sessions. Mumbai will not be naming a replacement for Jaiswal, who hurt his right ankle during training ahead of the semi-final fixture.

Yashasvi Jaiswal will take no part in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy Semi-Final

It was not a happy week for the opening batter who was left out of the 2025 Champions Trophy squad after initially being named in the 15-member unit. In a left-field move, the specialist opener was replaced by spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who will be rivalling Kuldeep Yadav for the lead spinner role in India’s playing XI in Dubai.

Jaiswal was instead named as one of the three non-travelling reserves, but the management will have to name a new reserve player: Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, and Karun Nair the frontrunners for the non-travelling reserve role.

In a replay of the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy final, Mumbai and Vidarbha will come at loggerheads yet again, this time in the semi-final of the 2024-25 edition. Vidarbha look in much better form this year though as most of their players are experiencing a purple patch while Mumbai has been bailed out of tough situations by their lower-order batters on most occasions this season.

Ajinkya Rahane’s men will miss the services of the batter who was a star for India in the 2023-25 ICC World Test Championship cycle: the second-highest run-getter in the two-year cycle, he was also the only Indian in the Top 15 run-scorers.

As Jaiswal was mostly on international duty during the ongoing Ranji Trophy, he played only a solitary fixture, against Jammu & Kashmir. He made 4 and 26 as J&K trumped the 42-time champions and topped the group, but were eventually knocked out by Kerala in the quarter-final.
