Arjun Tendulkar, playing for Goa in the 2024/25 Ranji Trophy, completed his first five wicket-haul in first-class cricket, against Arunachal Pradesh on the opening day of their Plate Division match.
The left-arm seamer achieved a feat that his father, the great Sachin Tendulkar, never did once across his 310-match career, taking five in an innings, his first in the format.
The 25-year-old Tendulkar, a bowling all-rounder, ripped open Arunachal's batting order, finishing with figures of 9-3-25-5, bowling them out for 84 in 30.3 overs. Mohit Redkar followed up with three, while Keith Pinto took the remaining two wickets. Three of his dismissals were bowled.
Before this, Tendulkar has played 16 first-class games, taking 32 wickets at 37.75 with a best haul of 4-49. He's also played 15 List A matches, taking 21 wickets at 30.80, as well as 26 T20 wickets at an economy of 8.61.
He made his first-class debut for Mumbai in 2020/21, but due to lack of opportunities, switches bases to Goa ahead of the 2022/23 season.
The spell could draw the attention of scouts ahead of the IPL auction, scheduled to take place on November 24th and 25th. He hasn't been able to become a mainstay in the tournament so far, having played four games in 2023 and one game earlier this year, all for Mumbai Indians. It's also the franchise his father played for, and now acts as a mentor for.
He was released by the franchise ahead of the mega auction.
Goa are currently at the top of the Plate Division, with four wins out of four. Arunachal Pradesh are last out of six, with four losses.
For those interested, Sachin Tendulkar took 71 first-class wickets – 46 in Tests – but never a five-wicket haul. His best in the format came against South Africa in the 2000 Eden Gardens Test, when he picked 3-10.
