South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch has been banned from the PSL after he was picked in the player draft, but subsequently signed an IPL deal.
The 30-year-old had been selected in the PSL draft in January by Peshawar Zalmi for the 2025 season. However, on March 8, the first signs of conflict thanks to the PSL and IPL's overlapping schedule showed up when Mumbai Indians announced they had signed Bosch as a replacement for the injured Lizaad Williams.
Eight days later, the Pakistan Cricket Board served Bosch with a legal notice, alleging a breach of contract on the all-rounder's part. A day after Bosch was served with the legal notice, Peshawar Zalmi signed Australian opener Mitchell Owen as his replacement.
Today, the board confirmed via a press release that Bosch has been banned from the league for one year, therefore making him ineligible for selection in next year's tournament. He has not yet played for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025, but has taken a catch as a substitute fielder.
The IPL has also sought to crack down on player pull-outs this year, announcing that those who were signed by franchises in the auction but did not show up for the season without a valid reason would be banned for a further two years – England batter Harry Brook could be the first player to suffer this fate.
Bosch: I deeply regret my decision to withdraw from the PSL
In a joint statement with the PCB on Friday (April 10), Bosch said, "I deeply regret my decision to withdraw from the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) and offer my sincere apologies to the people of Pakistan, the fans of Peshawar Zalmi and the wider cricket community.
"The HBL PSL is a prestigious tournament and I fully understand the disappointment caused by my actions. To the loyal fans of Peshawar Zalmi, I am truly sorry for letting you down.
"I take full responsibility for my actions and accept the consequences, including the penalty fine and the one-year ban from the HBL PSL. This has been a hard lesson, but I am committed to learning from this experience and hope to return to the HBL PSL in the future with renewed dedication and the trust of the fans."
While Bosch mentioned a penalty fine in his statement, there has not yet been official confirmation from the PCB on the same.
