David Warner has been appointed the captain of Karachi Kings for PSL 2025.
Warner, one of the most dynamic and aggressive hitters in the shorter format, takes over from Shan Masood for the tenth edition of the Pakistan Super League that kickstarts on April 11. This is the first time that the left-hander will take part in the PSL, after being picked in the pre-season draft that was held in January.
What is Warner's T20 captaincy record?
He brings with him plenty of captaincy experience, having led in 120 T20s in his career, including in the Big Bash League and the IPL. Warner recently led Sydney Thunder to the final of the 2024-25 BBL, where they went down to Hobart Hurricanes. Warner's teams have won 61 of the 120 T20s he has captained in, losing 56 of those.
A stalwart in the format, Warner has amassed 12,913 runs in 299 T20s at an average of 37 and a strike rate of 140.23. He has smashed eight hundreds and 108 fifties in his career spanning nearly 18 years.
Warner will not be playing in IPL 2025
Warner’s availability opened up for the PSL after he was snubbed at the IPL mega-auction held late last year. A behemoth in the league, Warner had played in all seasons of the IPL since 2009, scoring 6,565 runs at 40.52.
He became the face of Sunrisers Hyderabad, for whom he played between 2014 and 2021, making 4,014 runs in 95 games. He also guided them to the title in 2016 before he was traded to Delhi Capitals. He did not have the greatest season in 2024, averaging just 21 and playing eight games before being released by the franchise.
