With two points from six games, Multan Sultans are at the bottom of the PSL 2025 points table. However, all is not lost yet.
Things look bleak for MS at this point. Not only are they two points behind fifth-placed Peshawar Zalmi but their net run rate also bears an abysmal look to it. At this point, they have four games left – against Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings at Lahore, and against PZ and Quetta Gladiators at home.
PSL 2025 points table: Updated team rankings on April 27, 2025
Teams | Matches | Won | Lost | Tied | No Result | Points | NRR |
Islamabad United | 5 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 10 | +2.342 |
Lahore Qalandars | 6 | 3 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 6 | +0.543 |
Quetta Gladiators | 5 | 3 | 2 | 0 | 0 | 6 | +0.140 |
Karachi Kings | 6 | 3 | 3 | 0 | 0 | 6 | -0.217 |
Peshawar Zalmi | 6 | 2 | 4 | 0 | 0 | 4 | -0.847 |
Multan Sultans | 6 | 1 | 5 | 0 | 0 | 2 | -1.562 |
What do Multan Sultans need to qualify?
Wins in all four games will take MS to 10 points. That had been sufficient for a Playoffs spot in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2023. In 2024, the match between Islamabad United and QG had been abandoned, and both teams qualified with 11, while no other team made it past eight. In other words, had the match been played, the defeated side would have made it with 10.
Thus, while 10 points do not guarantee MS a playoffs slot – in 2020, Lahore Qalandars came fifth with 10 – they have a reasonable chance.
What if MS lose a game? In 2020, PZ made it with nine points, while in 2022, IU finished fourth despite having only eight points. While not impossible to go through with a single-digit tally, MS would want to be in a better position.
To win all four games is, thus, as good as a necessary step, but – as 2020 demonstrated – not quite sufficient.
