Peshawar Zalmi equalled the PSL record for most ducks in an innings (5) during their match against Quetta Gladiators in Rawalpindi on Saturday (April 12).
Chasing 217, Zalmi opted for an opener-heavy lineup, with BBL final hero Mitchell Owen surprisingly slotted at No. 7. Their innings derailed early when Babar Azam holed out to Rilee Rossouw at cover off a delivery from Mohammad Amir, recording his ninth PSL duck, the third-most of all-time. Mohammad Haris fell next for a brisk 13 off eight balls to Abrar Ahmed in the fourth over. Zalmi soon slipped from 30-2 to 30-3 in the space of two balls as Abrar picked up Tom Kohler-Cadmore, in at No.4 for a duck.
Max Bryant, Alzarri Joseph, and Mohammad Ali also fell without opening their accounts. A fighting 50 off 38 balls from Saim Ayub, who is returning from an injury, supported by Hasan Talat (35 off 19) and Owen (31 off 13), proved insufficient as Zalmi collapsed to 136 all out in 15.1 overs.
Zalmi equal PSL record with five ducks
Zalmi’s innings featured five ducks – joint-most in a PSL innings – matching the unwanted record set in a 2021 clash between these same teams, albeit with roles reversed. The Gladiators on that occasion fell 61 runs short of Zalmi’s target of 198, with Kamran Akmal, Azam Khan, Cameron Delport, Mohammad Nawaz and Zahid Mahmood all falling for zeros.
Despite being expensive, Abrar (4-42) claimed three of the five ducks, while Usman Tariq took one and Alzarri was run out.
