Islamabad United have signed Kyle Mayers as a replacement player for the remainder of PSL 2025.

Rassie van der Dussen to miss PSL 2025

On Wednesday (April 23), the franchise announced that South African batter Rassie van der Dussen would miss the season for personal reasons. A club statement read, "Rassie van der Dussen won’t be able to join us this season due to personal reasons. Islamabad United stands firmly with Rassie van der Dussen during this difficult time.

"After discussions with Rassie, both parties have mutually agreed that he will not be participating in this season’s HBL PSL. We extend our full support to him and his family."

Van der Dussen's absence comes just three days after Australian opening batter Matthew Short was ruled out of the tournament thanks to a recurrence of an injury he had sustained during the Champions Trophy.

Before the tournament started, Islamabad had signed Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey as a partial replacement for van der Dussen, who at that point had been expected to miss the initial part of the campaign. However, Carey pulled out of the tournament on opening day.

With two top-order batters now ruled out, Islamabad have opted to sign one replacement as squad cover.

Islamabad United sign Kyle Mayers

"With both Rassie van der Dussen and Matt Short ruled out of the tournament, Islamabad United has decided to bring in one overseas replacement.

"We are pleased to announce the inclusion of West Indian all-rounder Kyle Mayers as a replacement player. Mayers is expected to join the squad ahead of our sixth match in Lahore," announced the franchise on Wednesday.

Mayers' most recent T20 engagement was the Bangladesh Premier League, where he played a key role in Fortune Barishal's run to the title with 209 runs at an average of 52 and strike rate of 177 in seven matches. Following that, he played two matches for Barbados in the 2024-25 Regional Four-Day Championship, West Indies' premier domestic competition – putting up scores of 40, 70, 33 and 45.

Mayers has represented West Indies in 18 Tests, 28 ODIs and 38 T20Is. He has played in seven different franchise T20 league, including the Champions League T20 in 2014-15, but this will be his first stint in the PSL.

Islamabad play their fifth match of the season today, with their sixth match scheduled for April 30 against Lahore Qalandars in Lahore.
