Watch: Wellington’s Nick Greenwood ticked all the boxes as a batter, but had to pay the price of forgetting one cardinal principle of the game, run out in bizarre fashion by New Zealand’s Ben Wheeler.
The incident happened during Wellington’s second innings against Central Districts in their Plunket Shield encounter. Greenwood played a forward defensive stroke to send the ball back to the Central Districts bowler. After that, he held his pose for a moment. The attentive bowler lobbed the ball back at Greenwood’s stumps and managed to connect.
The batter was out of his crease, and was also not guarding his stumps. He was given out by the square leg umpire.

As a bowler, you dream of pulling this off…
Ben Wheeler just did it!
