Watch: 18-year-old Kwena Maphaka, on ODI debut, gave Mohammad Rizwan a dose of short-pitched stuff with a cracking bouncer during the second South Africa-Pakistan ODI in Cape Town.
Maphaka, who became the youngest ODI debutant for South Africa on Thursday, shared the new ball with Marco Jansen, replacing Kagiso Rabada in the playing XI. Born in 2006, Maphaka recently became South Africa's youngest T20I player too, and could be in line for a Test debut soon, having been named in the squad to face Pakistan.
He has already impressed with his speed, clocking 151.6kph in the first T20Is against Pakistan. If you are wondering how he generates such high speeds at 18, here's a deep dive.
The left-armer gave away 19 runs from his first four overs before responding with an eventful wicket maiden, picking up his first ODI wicket in the form of Saim Ayub. A short and wide delivery was top-edged to third man, giving South Africa their first breakthrough.

But it was two balls later that Maphaka showed what he could really do with his pace. After feeding a full delivery to new man Mohammad Rizwan, Maphaka slipped in a vicious bouncer that Rizwan could do little with. The ball pinged into his helmet and floored him: Maphaka showed no remorse, staring back at him before walking away.
Rizwan had to be tended to by the physios, who did the customary concussion check, but he was good to carry on. At the time of writing, he had stitched together a fifty-run stand with Babar Azam.
On X, fast-bowling great Dale Steyn couldn't hide his appreciation for Maphaka, tweeting: "Jeepers Rizwan just got a Maphaka PK!" PK stands for poesklap, a South African slang for "a very hard slap".
