Shan Masood scored a blazing hundred in the first Test between Pakistan and England in Multan. Here’s the list of Pakistan captains to score a men’s Test ton.
Masood scored his fifth Test ton off just 102 balls to give Pakistan an early advantage in the Test match. In the process, he became the 17th Pakistan captain to rack up a hundred in the format. This was also his first since 2020 against England.
Masood’s form has been under scrutiny, especially after the 0-2 series loss against Bangladesh at home. Since his last ton 15 Tests ago, he has averaged 22.15 before the match. The innings would bring a sigh of relief for the under-fire captain.
Despite losing Saim Ayub (4) early, Pakistan made full use of the favourable batting conditions as Masood joined hands with Abdullah Shafique to put the home side in the driver's seat.
Masood (130* off 142) and Shafique (87* off 153) brought up a 200-run partnership off 247 balls. Pakistan then were at 208-1 off 44.3 overs.
James Anderson, England's bowling consultant, is playing a golf tournament and is yet to arrive in Pakistan for the Test series.
